Christ-Centered Communication Class
Many Christians believe caring and assertiveness don’t belong together—but they absolutely do. This engaging 10-week study helps us learn how to communicate clearly and confidently while staying grounded in love and respect.
We will meet on Tuesday evenings (6:30-8:15pm) beginning June 2. It is a co-ed class; however, childcare will not be available.
Participants will develop practical communication skills for everyday life—skills that strengthen relationships at home, at church, at work, and beyond. Together, we’ll explore how to speak honestly, set healthy boundaries, listen well, and express needs and emotions in ways that reflect Christ’s love.
The church will provide you with the book Caring Assertiveness: Relating Directly, Honestly, and with Respect, a Stephen Ministries publication. There will be required reading of 1-2 chapters each week, which should take between 30-60 minutes to complete. We will combine thoughtful discussion, real-life examples, and Biblical insight to grow in both confidence and love.
Using Jesus as a model, you will learn how to:
- Communicate clearly without being passive or aggressive
- Make & respond to requests with respect
- Give & receive feedback correctly
- Offer & ask for help
- Express & receive anger appropriately
- Listen more effectively
- Relate assertively to others, and to God
When we relate assertively, we honor both ourselves and others. We speak the truth with love, treat people with respect, and build stronger, healthier relationships. Relating assertively isn’t about being harsh – it’s about caring well.
